About the event

Speakeasy, our monthly music and poetry evening. Musicians and poets each do a 20-25 minute set which is followed by open mic. Afterwards we mingle for conversation, connection and light refreshments. Students are welcome.

Featuring music from John "Roy Zat" Croizat. Roy Zat has been making music in the Bay Area and beyond since the 70s. His latest CD, WHERE ZAT was #12 in the Alt Folk Albums of 2022. "With Appalachian influences, Cajun, dust bowl, and a dash of rocka-billy - each song sounds and reads like a book. His lyrics are stunning and his rich vocals bring life to each song." - Indie Showcase.

Featuring poetry from Denise Low. Kansas Poet Laureate 2007-09, is winner of the Red Mountain Press Editor's Choice Award for Shadow Light: Poems. Recent books are a memoir, The Turtle's Beating Heart: One Family's Story of Lenape Survival (U. of Nebraska Press), Wing (poems), and A Casino Bestiary: Poems (Spartan Press). Her House of Grace, House of Blood is forthcoming from the University of Arizona Press.

Donations to support this free event are appreciated. Hosted by Brian Martens and Simmon Factor.
